Local loans
Book loans are offered only to patrons residing in the province of Arezzo and over 14 years of age. Loans are also offered to people who despite not being domiciled in the province of Arezzo carry out their professional or student activities in the Arezzo area; such status should be attested to by said person’s employer or by the school or University institution the person is attending. A maximum of two works (for a maximum of 4 volumes) may be checked out at one time. Book loans are for a maximum period of 30 days. Patrons may renew the loan one time during the loan period providing indication of it (also over the phone) and confirming the loan within two days handing in a new loan request. Books requested and currently unavailable for check-out may be reserved over the phone.
Interlibrary loans
Materials not available in the library may be requested from other Italian and foreign libraries. Patrons requesting such service will be charged the associated postage expenses. Loans are free of charge for materials requested from libraries located in Tuscany and participating in the “Libri in rete” (Books on the net) project. Within the limits prescribed by its Regulations the Arezzo Town Library makes its library heritage available to Italian and foreign libraries.
Bibliographic advice (reference)
Basic advice on how to perform bibliographic searches through catalogues is provided by the distribution office staff during the Library’s opening hours.
The Arezzo Town Library also started a reference service to provide patrons with a variety of information ranging from the search of a title or an author, advice for bibliographic searches to assistance in the use of multimedia materials. Your reference librarian will also provide assistance in the selection and retrieval of documentary materials and information from the Internet: the consultation of different online catalogues (OPAC) allows patrons to identify and locate the desired document and verify its availability at different libraries.
Internet and wireless
A personal computer that may be used by patrons to access the web is available at the Information Service. The service is free of charge and provided upon registration of the user at the Information Service.
Photocopies
Photocopies may only be made in compliance with all applicable copyright laws from modern documents available in the Library. Photocopying requests will be met immediately if the number of copies to be made is not in excess of 30 or within 3 working days for requests in excess of this number. Manuscripts, antique documents, bound periodicals, particularly valuable documents or otherwise not in perfect conditions may only be reproduced photographically or through microfilming making a formal request to the Director and specifying the use of such reproduction. Should the reproduction be for commercial purposes reproduction fees will be incurred. After the permission has been granted photographs mat be taken either by a professional photographer (to be paid by the user) or by the applicant him/herself with a camera in natural light. Manuscript and antique periodical microfilms may be printed out. Photostatic reproductions are made by the Library staff.
